                                                        Barbie Stories and Award

There have been several worthy stories this season. Honorable mention goes to: Lori Benson who cannot see early in the morning, and arrived with 2 different shoes on! Neither were among her favourites, both matched her outfit, so she deserves a round of applause!

We have 1 up on that shoe story....Jackie Inglis, thought the slippers were appropriate footwear....totally forgot her golf shoes! No mix-up with colour or style, at all. Being in a rush to get home and put the shoes on, on her way back to the golf course, ran out of gas! That little trip home probably saved her from running out of gas on #3! On another day, Jackie learned if you leave the light on overnight, the cart won’t start! Luckily, there is more than 1 cart at her disposal.

Shirley Sorrell is a sprinter, for a short distance, then gives up! Her cart left the hill on #4, made it’s way to the #5 T-Box. She did try to hook it with her putter, but to no avail! It ran all the way into the bush, and turned topsy-turvy. Not sure how long it held up the pace, to pick up all the shrapnel!

Gene Renaud also has bad luck with carts...The first purchase turned out to be a cart with a flat tire. Not the easiest to maneuver around the course. 2nd cart, Pat carefully took it all apart to clean and lubricate every little turning bolt. He did such a good job, it fell apart at the Club House. Luckily Jeff has many talents, re-building golf carts among them! As a matter of fact, the cart was so well oiled and re-built, it left on it’s own, also on #4....but Gene can sprint...all the way to the hydro towers.... I have never seen a golfer who always walks, move so fast! 3rd time was a charm...Cart disappeared, again on the hill on #4, apparently while she was looking for a ball in the desert. A very nice farmer, mentioned that this wasn’t the first time he had returned a cart to someone who had no idea what happened!

The Barbie Award, this season, goes to a golfer who always

dresses perfectly and to the 9’s, or maybe 3’s! 3 things to

re-position after using the bathroom on #6 appeared to be a

bit of a challenge.

Leggings came up, the skort also came into place, but

somehow walking was still awkward! Oh, yah, forgot

the underwear!

Cheers to our Carolyn who is always a good sport!

Over 80 golfers: Presented with chocolates.                                   Sandi read this poem

It gives me great pleasure to honour these eight Ladies who continue to show us what is possible to achieve in our Golden Years. Two of these Ladies played in the horrific weather on March 1, that was 50% of the field. I found this little poem that seemed appropriate for our 80 pluses (and that’s not their golf score) -

Lee Raye Robinson (Mar 1935)
Jackie Inglis (Nov 1937)
Gail Johnson (Nov 1939)
Joy Dover (Nov 1939)
Judy Wiwchar (Apr 1940)
Linda Bayles (May 1942)
Carole Bennett (Aug 1942)
Sherry Ekhoff (Feb 1943) . . . our Golden Girls!

This lady will turn 80 later this year
Glenda Graham (Oct 1943)

Over fifty years have passed,
Tho’ it seems like just the other day;
My father gave me golf clubs,
“It’s a game you need to learn to play.”
He said, “It’s very difficult, but so is life.
There is more to learn than grip and swing and rules,
Like honesty and dealing with adversity;
Then, point to his head,” . . . and how to use ALL your tools.
Play the Course . . . and Mother Nature . . .
Focus on just one shot at a time;
Try to learn from your mistakes;
Then, do your best to leave them behind.
These clubs will teach you more
Than our ‘man to woman’ talks.
This you’ll learn for yourself,
So, you can “walk the walk”.

Practise makes better, but not perfect.
And always remember what they say:
“Golf is not a game that we can win.
It’s just a game we play.”
His lessons served me very well.
Took them to heart and play the game.
And life is much like a round of golf.
Despite the bad shots, I’m always glad I came.
On Behalf of the membership thank you for being such an inspiration and showing us golf is still better than
housework!!

Bravo Ladies. Please accept this small token of our admiration.
